Parklet is an extension of the pedestrian zone, converting parking lots into public space for people. On one hand, it is an attempt to show how much public space one car takes, and on the other hand, it is creation of conditions for citizens’ socialization and recreation.
The first parklets were created in San Francisco in 2010. The parklets in Ivano-Frankivsk is the first example of alternative use of urban space in Ukraine. The article about parklets appeared in Ukrainian Wikipedia after implementation of the project. Before, there was a description in English only.
The project goal is to experiment in space, to gain the social effects of the alternative use of parking lots, to draw attention of Ivano-Frankivsk citizens to alternative ecological modes of transport. New parklet is also a place for recreation, a green area, a vivid example of installing multiple bike parking facilities using a parking lot for a car.

The projects was implemented in June 2015 by a team of “Teple Misto” and volunteers. Urban Project, GIZ Lviv supported it.
