A restaurant in Silicon Valley raised more than $10,000 for Ukraine

Alice’s restaurant is a famous restaurant – a symbol of the era of the Peace Movement of the 1960s and is located in the middle of a sequoia forest reserve in California, USA. Its current owners, Andy and Jamie Kerr, decided to help Ukrainians affected by the war. They produced special T-shirts in support of Ukraine and from their sales donated $10,000 to Save Ukraine Now.

Alex Tauber, a friend of the Kerr family and co-founder and CEO of Veer, told “Teple misto” how the idea for such support came about.

“Our team has a tradition – when we meet in California, we always go to Alice’s. When the war in Ukraine started, Jamie and Andy (pictured, – ed.) asked how they could be useful to Ukrainians and decided to make t-shirts in support of Ukraine. The idea were so successful that the restaurant doesn’t keep up to produce additional batches of T-shirts, they are bought up by guests and fans of the establishment,” says Alex Tauber.

According to Alex Tauber, several hundred T-shirts worth over $10,000 have been sold so far.

Alex noted that Andy and Jamie Kerr are very active in their community and are involved in a variety of initiatives that are important to the locals. Therefore, helping Ukraine is a step in expanding the community of friends of the restaurant.

“Alice’s has been around since the 1960s and is one of the symbols of the Peace Movement that flourished during those years. Everyone comes here – Olympians, Nobel laureates. Elon Musk brought one of the first Teslas here, and the daughter of Steve Jobs mentions this restaurant in her book “Small Fry: A Memoir”. Here everyone sits next to each other, and communicates on the same level, this place is very special. We are so pleased that the restaurant decided to help Ukraine! But it also fits very naturally with its mission,” noted Stanislav Zlatkin, Veer’s lead engineer.

Stanislav added that the choice of the fund to which the funds were transferred was also very natural, because now some of the Veer employees are in Ivano-Frankivsk and follow the activities of Save Ukraine Now.
